In the heart of the Garden Route you will find the beautiful city of George. It is one of the oldest cities (6th oldest) in South Africa, over 200 years old. The population reaching around 190 000 people. George is situated halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Named after King George III, reigning monarch of England it was declared a drostdy by the Earl of Caledon in 1811. Although in 1988 this part of the world was already being explored for fresh water and food.
